LinkedIn Easy Apply: how to apply fast and still stand out
The Easy Apply button on LinkedIn is tempting: a few clicks and your application is in. But what does that speed actually win you with an employer, and what does it cost? This guide covers how Easy Apply works, its pros and cons, how to get noticed in a crowded applicant list, and where automation fits in.
What is LinkedIn Easy Apply?
Easy Apply lets you apply to a job without leaving LinkedIn, using your profile and an uploaded resume. If a posting shows "Easy Apply", you complete a short form inside LinkedIn; if it only says "Apply", you are sent to the company's own site or the applicant tracking system it uses.
According to LinkedIn's help pages, the process works like this:
- The form. The pop-up asks for your contact details, your resume and, if the employer added them, screening questions. You can review everything before you submit.
- Resumes. LinkedIn keeps your four most recently uploaded resumes so you can reuse them. It recommends a Word or PDF file under 2 MB.
- Saved answers. After your first application, LinkedIn offers to save your answers. With this setting on, later forms are pre-filled; you can switch it off at any time in your job application settings.
- No take-backs. Once submitted, an application cannot be withdrawn or edited through LinkedIn. If you forgot to attach a resume, you cannot reapply to the same job; to correct something, you need to contact the employer directly.
- Tracking. Easy Apply applications appear in your applied jobs list on LinkedIn; applications completed on a company website do not.
What are the pros and cons of Easy Apply?
The biggest advantage is speed, and the biggest drawback is that everyone else has the same speed. The easier it is to apply, the more applications each posting receives, and the larger the pile yours lands in.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Done in minutes, with no new account or password to create. | Because it is easy, postings attract many applicants and standing out gets harder. |
| Your profile travels with the application and works like an extra page. | There is usually little room for a cover letter or a longer explanation. |
| Saved answers and resumes are reused. | A saved answer may not fit every posting; used carelessly, it sends wrong information. |
| Applications are collected in one list inside LinkedIn. | Nothing can be corrected after you submit. |
In short, Easy Apply saves real time on jobs you fit. On jobs you don't fit, it mostly gets you a faster rejection.
How do you stand out with Easy Apply?
When a recruiter opens your application, they usually look first at your headline, your most recent experience and your answers to the screening questions. Get those three right and the short form works for you rather than against you.
Profile and headline
- Write the headline for the role you want. Instead of "Open to new opportunities", use something like "Backend Developer · Java, Kubernetes · 6 years" that names the role and your core skills.
- Make your last two roles concrete. Short bullet points on what you did and what came of it, using the tool and skill names that appear in job postings.
- Be clear about location and work mode. Remote, hybrid or open to relocation should be consistent between your profile and your answers.
Resume
The resume you upload through Easy Apply often ends up in the employer's applicant tracking system (ATS). Use a text-based file with a simple layout; tables, columns and text embedded in images may not be read. Our guide to ATS-friendly CVs goes into detail. If you apply to different kinds of roles, prepare a version for each and use LinkedIn's four resume slots deliberately.
Screening questions
Questions like "How many years of Python experience do you have?", "Are you authorized to work in this country?" or "Can you work from the office three days a week?" are often the first automated filter. Two rules: be honest and stay consistent with your resume. An inflated answer may get you past the first filter, but it will surface in the interview, and an inconsistent one undermines trust in the first minute. Check your saved answers from time to time too: the "3 years" you entered last year may now be 4.
Small details that matter
- The "follow company" checkbox. The last step of the form often includes a pre-ticked box to follow the company. Without noticing, you can end up following dozens of companies and filling your feed with unrelated posts. Untick it before submitting if you don't want that.
- A message after applying. For a job you really want, a short, specific note to the person who posted it or someone on the team can lift you out of the list.
- Check the posting date. Postings that have been up for a long time tend to bring fewer replies; put your energy into fresh ones.
Should you apply to many jobs or fewer, better ones?
It isn't either-or: the right approach is to increase volume among jobs you genuinely fit. Applying to a hundred jobs you don't match will not bring more interviews than applying carefully to twenty you do, and it drains your time and motivation.
In practice:
- Filter first. If the work authorization, language requirement or location doesn't fit, there is no point applying.
- Then rank. Sort the postings you fit by how well you fit them and start with the strongest matches.
- Speed up the routine. For similar postings, use saved answers and ready resume versions instead of retyping the same information.
- Save time for your dream companies. For a handful of special openings, think separately about your profile, resume and message.
Where does automation fit into Easy Apply?
Automation helps most with the first three steps above: filtering postings, ranking them by fit and filling in repetitive forms. Making decisions and preparing for interviews should stay with you.
This is how Besim Apply handles it: the desktop app finds postings on LinkedIn that match your search groups, in your own browser. AI compares each posting with your CV, scores it from 0 to 100 and explains why (your strengths, your gaps, and whether requirements such as work authorization and language are met). You approve postings one by one or set an auto-approve threshold for a search group; without a threshold, nothing is sent without your approval. For approved postings, the app applies through the LinkedIn form if the job is Easy Apply, and on the company's own application page if it is not.
The video is not loaded until you press play; then it opens from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode.
A few details worth knowing:
- Human speed, daily limits. To protect your account, the app applies daily search and application limits and moves through pages at human speed.
- LinkedIn's own limit. If LinkedIn says you have reached its daily Easy Apply limit, those postings wait in your list and are retried once the limit has passed; applications on company sites carry on.
- It stops at security checks. If LinkedIn shows a verification code, a captcha or a similar check, or your session ends, the app stops automated actions and waits until you complete the check and sign in again.
- The follow checkbox. If you choose, the app unfollows, during idle time, the companies you started following because of the Easy Apply checkbox; companies you followed yourself are left alone.
- Interviews are yours. If an application continues with a live or AI-led interview, the app cannot take that step; you open the posting and complete the interview yourself.
- Indeed. Indeed search is in beta: postings are found and scored, but you open them on Indeed to apply.

Does LinkedIn allow automation?
LinkedIn's User Agreement prohibits using bots or automated methods for purposes such as accessing the service, sending messages or driving inauthentic engagement. LinkedIn states that breaking these rules can lead to temporary or permanent restriction of an account.
Besim Apply applies from your own computer, in your own browser and with your own account; the limits and stop rules above exist to protect that account. Still, platforms change their screens often, and the platform alone decides when and how it restricts an account. Reading the rules of the platforms you use and acting in line with them is your responsibility.
On privacy: your job platform password never reaches Besim Technology, and your session stays on your computer. Your name, email address, phone number and profile link are replaced with placeholders before anything is sent to the AI. Details are in the privacy policy.
Easy Apply checklist
- Does my headline name the target role and my core skills?
- Is the resume I'm uploading text-based, current and the right version for this type of role?
- Are my saved answers (years of experience, work authorization, salary expectation, notice period) still correct?
- Do I meet this posting's work authorization, language and location requirements?
- Am I leaving the "follow company" box ticked on purpose?
- Does this posting deserve a personal message?
Frequently asked questions
Are Easy Apply applications worth less?
No. Employers look at what is in the application more than at which button was used. But Easy Apply postings usually get more applicants, which is why a strong profile and careful screening answers matter more.
Can I fix an application after sending it?
Not through LinkedIn; a submitted application cannot be withdrawn or edited. You can tell the employer about an important mistake by contacting them directly.
Does Besim Apply only apply to Easy Apply jobs?
No. For postings found on LinkedIn it can apply both through the Easy Apply form and on the company's own application page. Indeed postings are, for now, only searched and scored.
Will applications be sent without my knowledge?
By default you approve every posting. If you set an auto-approve threshold for a search group, only postings above that score are applied to, every application sent appears in your list, and you can remove the threshold at any time.
Does it help with jobs abroad?
Yes. You can add other countries and cities to your search groups and set your work authorization in your profile. For tips on Germany, see our guide to finding a job in Germany; for the full product, visit the Besim Apply page.
